Hashtag Counter & Cleaner
Paste a caption or a list and the tool pulls out the hashtags, counts them and removes duplicates. Instagram applies only 5 hashtags per post, so extras are flagged. Plain words without # are turned into hashtags too.
How to use the hashtag cleaner
- Paste any text. Hashtags are extracted and counted.
- Tags past the fifth are marked “over”. Keep first 5 drops the rest.
- Choose a format and tap Copy hashtags.
Picking 5 hashtags that work
- 1–2 topic tags: exactly what the post is (#filmphotography, #homebaking).
- 1–2 audience or place tags: who it’s for (#nycfoodie, #smallapartmentdecor).
- 1 brand tag: your own tag that collects your posts.
- Skip giant tags. #love or #instagood are so crowded your post disappears in seconds.
FAQ
How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?
Since December 2025 Instagram applies at most 5 hashtags per post or Reel. Extra tags are ignored, so pick the five that describe the post best.
Can I add more hashtags in the comments?
No — caption and comment hashtags share the same 5-tag limit. The first-comment format only keeps your caption tidy; it doesn’t add slots.
Are hashtags case-sensitive?
No. #Cafe and #cafe are the same tag. Duplicate removal ignores case and keeps the first spelling.
Which characters break a hashtag?
Spaces, periods, hyphens and symbols end a hashtag. Use letters, numbers and underscores only — the extractor follows the same rule.
How should I choose hashtags?
Specific beats broad. Combine a topic tag, a location or niche tag and your own brand tag instead of giant generic ones.
