Instagram Caption Character Counter
Paste your caption to see how many of the 2,200 characters you have left, whether it fits a 150-character bio, and how many hashtags and mentions it has. Use Copy with line breaks so Instagram keeps your spacing.
How to use the caption counter
- Paste a caption or bio; it’s counted against 2,200 and 150 characters instantly.
- Over the limit or more than 5 hashtags? The counter turns red.
- To keep blank lines between paragraphs, use Copy with line breaks and paste into Instagram.
Caption tips
- The first 125 characters matter most. The rest hides behind “more”, so lead with the hook or a question.
- Short paragraphs, blank lines between. Breathing room every 3–4 lines keeps people reading on a phone.
- Five precise hashtags. Extras are ignored — pick them with the hashtag cleaner.
FAQ
What is the Instagram caption character limit?
2,200 characters. In the feed only about the first 125 characters show before “more”, so put the hook in the first two lines.
How long can an Instagram bio be?
150 characters. The bio bar on this page shows whether your text fits.
Why does Instagram remove my line breaks?
Instagram can strip empty lines and trailing spaces. “Copy with line breaks” fills empty lines with an invisible character (⠀, U+2800), so the gaps survive when you paste.
How many hashtags can I use?
Since December 2025 Instagram applies at most 5 hashtags per post (it used to be 30); extra tags are ignored. Clean up your list with the hashtag counter.
How are characters counted?
Each visible character counts as one, including spaces and line breaks. Some emojis may count as two on Instagram, so leave a little room near the limit.
